Conclusion
In this list you will find platforms that has both some similarities and differences, but there we can distinguish three main groups of products: first some simple web builders (Wix, Squarespace) great for starters, second some gaining popularity more advanced hosted solutions (Ecwid), and third open source projects (OpenCart, Prestashop) which can be easily tweaked out to meet personal needs.
Many people would say that Magento thanks to its scalability is true industry leader, but anyone who was dealing with it knows how ridiculously resource heavy it can be. This is part of the reason why Shopify has the biggest market share – you just don’t care about infrastructure. The other source of their success is that they are doing amazing marketing job. Every internet ‘marketer’/’influencer’/’guru’ tries to convince you that this platform is way to go, here’s an example link. I get it, in my opinion it’s pretty good platform. But still I can’t get used to giving out percentage from sales as a transaction fees, for me it’s the worst option.
